Hello, my friends! Wow, it has been forever since I've posted anything. I've been in school for 18 months, and... well... I suppose I just got shy about sharing my playing. There's so much more pressure when one suddenly gets noticed for certain videos. Anyway, I decided to go back to keeping it simple, so here's some droning, vocals, and a wee bit of rhythm, all processed through a bunch of re...

(Check this didge out here: bit.ly/SD-David) You know what's funny? I stopped playing as much as I used to because I entered a sort of online "spotlight" with my videos, then started feeling pressure to play all the newest, latest, "greatest" techniques. But the truth of the matter is that I actually really like this "simple" drone-based way of playing. That's what does it for me. That's what m...

Get Your Posture Right When Playing Didgeridoo
Переглядів 1,4 тис.3 роки тому
I decided to see if I could summarize better posture in under 2 minutes, so here it is! Believe it or not, I've seen a lot of really poor posture that definitely didn't support a student or player's ability to play properly even if it DID look comfy. You MUST get your upper body and neck straight and tall for playing to be as relaxed and efficient as possible! Key points: Sit on a solid enough ...

Didgeridoo Lesson for All: Drone Anxiety Is Holding You Back!

Hi didgeridoo friends, this video is a weird mix of "no big deal" and "pretty darn important." It's not quite technical, per se, but it's actually something I have observed in just about every student I have ever worked with, so if you can start working on getting over this NOW, you'll get to the next level in your playing that much faster! Circular Breathing Tutorial - Air is Everywhere!
That was the best tutorial I've seen thus far. Those I've watched to date are just confusing. They leave so much out, leaving one to work it out for ones self which I managed. Finding you confirms that I'm on the right track. I talk to myself all the time, so that part of the exercise will come easy. Your'e a godsend. Groove On ✌️ ❤
I just got my Didg and very thankful for you for this video, great explanation 👌🏼 will run to practice ❤thanks a lot 🤩
I naturally put an exaggerated pause or hold after both the exhale and the inhale, (former swimmer and yogi breath.) Now I am learning on my mini didgeridoo and realize this might make it a challenge. Or maybe my natural pause can work in my favor?
I love this
Nice Philosophy.
I practised for rwo hiurs laar night and got my drone happening for the veey first rime. Im having a lot of difficukty qith breathing through my nose while maintabing any type of rhythm.
Genius
So good
God wants me on your channel tonight😂. What is that black shaker in your left hand?!
Nm! Found it! This music is very healing.
This is so trippy. I’m so excited to flow with this instrument. I can only imagine the patterns that come through for people.
Holy shit, dude!!! I just got it BECAUSE I watched your 1st vid explaining its pressure!!!!! Omg. Watched other vids and couldn’t get it until you reworded it! I experimented then just understood what you explained when i felt it.
Holy crap yr good.
What didgeridoo are you using?
Hello, any info on how to purchase the Rick Ellis Vancouver Island Didge box? I can't seem to find anything online.
just got my didge, been doing this practice a little but with too much air for sure. Thank you for your video! I hope this will help, i'll get this some day haha
Sooo Interesting, love your channel, I'm a multi instrumentalist too, So I find that About the didgeridoo not have set songs, as such, They're purely for ceremonial grounding purposes , that's beautiful!!
Not unlike the bagpipes?
broham , feeling you all the way from texas . masterful drone therapy. so glad to hear you again , you are a true maestro.
Hello from Germany
Hello in Germany!
I missed the live, but i am a beginner from Finland.
Hi in Finland! Welcome!
I just happened to be sitting at my computer when your livestream came up. I have been practicing breathing exercises and also the lip buzzing for a while now, but could never make a sound in my homemade didge because my mouth is just too small to make contact all around. I just received a beeswax mouthpiece a few days ago and I worked on it during your livestream to get it attached. Thank you for showing the proper shape, I was not only able to get that done while you were doing things more advanced than I am ready for. And, tada....I was able to make my first drone sound EVER through the pipe thanks to the tips you provided. They really were helpful and I appreciate that. Thanks again and take care!
Wow, what a great coincidence! So glad to hear the livestream helped you get the drone! I hope you keep going, and I'm here to help if you run into any trouble!
This is awesome. So clear and concise. Thanks!
I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thank you!
Awesome info!
I love the feeling of a break through I totally get that basically my to big brake through was breathing while playing or some say circular breathing. But as an aboriginal man in Australia to watch you fellas trying for years things I naturally can do in 10 mins max and just listening to you fella playing is cool that our music instrument have a new life but as a traditional aboriginal man I can help but laugh at the laungues you fellas have made up sorry it's just funny 😁
Great video! Very informative and descriptive. I found this after leaving a sleep study appointment where I was informed that didgeridoo practice can improve snoring and sleep apnea issues by developing the muscles around the epiglottis. Have you heard of this? Do you have any corroborate information from students or friends? Thanks again! Subscribed and on my way to learning this unique instrument. 🤘🏼
Yes, I have heard from students that playing didgeridoo has improved their sleep apnea. The practice of mindful breathing can be supportive in the case of central sleep apnea, and the practice of circular breathing can strengthen the muscles of the back of the mouth, helping reduce obstructive sleep apnea. Happy to chat more if you'd like!
Always fun playing along with your lessons. I need to start recording all my practices. Sometimes i come up with a cool rhythm like the one you're playing, and then i never remember it again.
I know what you mean! I've really appreciated being able to "learn" old rhythms from my old recordings! Totally worth it.
@@Breathwood see I played yesterday for about 6 hours and I recorded four different beats that I was really enjoying because I can't remember them today but I have them recorded!! Easier to remember stuff until it becomes muscle memory
OFF THE CHAIN , BROTHER.
🤣
awesome videoo thank you from Brazil! i loved the way you explain :D
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Lovely playing brother...I am also a big fan of Blue Star flutes..he’s a true being of love and it sings thru in his children..
Thank you so much! How cool that you also know about his work.
Linking the two is so tough
It can definitely take some time!
I don’t own a didge either but am curious about the ‘circular PRESSURE breathing’ and have never had it explained so thoroughly yet simply too. Thanks as nos dude, for a great video ✌🏻
You're so welcome! It's so cool that you find this interesting even though you don't play didge!
@@Breathwood I have owned a didge before and still interested in the breathing technique anyway ✌🏻
I learnt in 1 day... ❤❤❤❤ thank you!
Amazing! You're welcome!
Fantastic! Thank you❤
You're welcome!
legend brother, I'll give it a go
Awesome! Good luck with it!
Hi I I’ve watched lots and lots of video’s on the dij. I started playing in 2001 and had a break. I’ve just picked it up again after a few years and I can say since I found your video’s. Something seems to have clicked. I can now do the wobble and I had been practicing for a while. But your explanation makes complete sense. I waould like to say thanks for the video’s. I think this will take my playing to places I ain’t been able to get to before. Thank you. BREO
I'm so glad to hear things have clicked! That's awesome!
My cheeks are full and I go to take a quick breath and the buzz stops 🤷♀️😅 I’ll get it eventually.
I love the sound of your didg! What kind is it?
I believe that one was pine! I sold it a long time ago, though...
I agree with your learning philosophy
Nice! Glad to hear that!
Lol...cute example of a first timer is ME!
Yeah? Just starting out?
Cool video and fun to see the struggle with slowing down and naming rhytms :-D I know it from myself - when playing and not thinking it works naturally, but when you try to analyse them with your brain....man - its so difficult! :-D
Right? Sometimes it feels so easy on the didge but so tricky to say! Glad you could appreciate the struggle!
I am so glad you made a new video. And as with the former ones it helpes me a lot to get better at playing. I discovered the fun of playing Didgeridoo just recently (well, one year ago) and all your videos I watched were really a great help. And I just love the rhythms you introduce.
Thanks for the sweet comment! Glad to hear you've been enjoying my videos!

Hi David, lovely to see and hear you back here. I need all the help I can get with my Didge practice and am looking forward to more content. This is probably a bit advanced for me at the moment, but I will continue to participate and practice. Best wishes from Guernsey, Channel Islands
